Safe Passage

I created this image, titled "Safe Passage," using incredible action figures from Boss Fight Studio's Vitruvian H.A.C.K.S. Collection. Shown here are the King of Asperity and Knight of Asperity. The King (it's good to be the King!) rides on a fully articulated horse from Boss Fight's Mighty Steeds Collection. I created two versions of this image, one with 4 characters and one with 2 characters, which you see above.
This image was set up and photographed in my 2nd floor studio. I loved the entire process, except perhaps having to haul my small rock quarry from my backyard up two flights of stairs to my studio. But in the end it was worth it.
This was the largest water set I've created in my studio. I typically will create water sets outside in my backyard, where I can make a mess and not worry about any cleanup.
In the image below you can see that I created my set on a large plastic tray with edges, which can hold up to a half inch depth of water. This is perfect for scenes featuring quiet, tranquil water. It's also great for when the weather outside is less than ideal for shooting.

I can be seen below blowing air onto the surface of the water, creating just enough ripples to suggest the movement of the river. I actually tried a few different methods of doing this - hitting the water with a soft blast of air from a can of compressed air, and fanning the water with a piece of cardboard. In the end my blowing on the water was the best solution for the look I wanted. Not recommended for those who are prone to hyperventilating!

And lastly, I'll share this short video BTS, which I added some sound effects to...just for fun!
I'm always amazed at the incredible scenes and worlds one can create through toy photography. For me, it all starts with the toys, toys that spark the imagination. Huge thanks to my friends at Boss Fight Studio for the continued inspiration, and a sincere thank you to everyone who stopped by to check out this post.
Head to the Boss Fight Shop to check out these figures and so many more.
